Elise has worked to reform healthcare with common sense solutions to lower costs, improve quality, and increase accessibility for North Country families. This includes protecting those with pre-existing conditions; allowing families and businesses to shop for insurance across state lines; pursuing real tort reform; fighting the waste, fraud, and abuse that costs our healthcare system billions each year; and allowing individuals and families to purchase insurance on the same tax-advantaged basis as businesses.
Throughout the COVID pandemic, Elise fought to secure crucial funds for hospitals and rural health care centers across the North Country. Elise has also been a vocal opponent of New York State’s vaccine mandates that have exacerbated labor shortages in our hospitals and health centers. Elise has been clear that we should not turn our backs on the brave healthcare heroes who fought on the front lines of the pandemic.
- Elise was recently awarded as a Congressional Champion of Family Medicine by the New York State Academy of Family Physicians for her work in Congress supporting family medicine and primary care and expanding healthcare access for North Country families.
- Elise recently worked across the aisle with her colleagues in the House and the Senate to introduce bipartisan, bicameral legislation to support families during the first year of their child’s life.
- This bill provides families with resources to pay for leave and to cover the cost of daycare, baby supplies and other expenses associated with a new child.
- She has a consistently strong record of bipartisanship on healthcare, including writing the largest fix to Obamacare last Congress that was signed into law by President Obama: the repeal of the auto-enrollment mandate.
Elise introduced the Community Health Investment, Modernization and Excellence (CHIME) Act of 2017 to extend the Community Health Centers Fund for five years. In New York’s 21st district, federally qualified Community Health Centers like Hudson Headwaters, North Country Family Health and the Community Health Center of the North Country provide over 95,000 people in the North Country with critical healthcare and preventative services. The overwhelming bipartisan support for CHIME was critical in passing legislation in the House to extend the Community Health Center Fund for two years.
