National Security
Our federal government has no greater role than to provide for our national defense. Our country continues to face serious, complex, and growing national security challenges around the world. New York’s 21st District plays an integral role in protecting the United States against these threats. Fort Drum is home to the 10th Mountain Division, the most deployed division in the U.S. Army since 9/11, and Elise is committed to ensuring that our soldiers at Fort Drum have the training and resources necessary to complete their mission.
In 2021, Elise worked to craft and pass the bipartisan National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year (FY) 2022 which helped strengthen our military and deliver needed resources to Fort Drum and the 10th Mountain Division. The NDAA FY 2022 authorizes a 2.7% pay raise for our troops, expands programs that support childcare for service members, secures $33 million to extend the range of the MQ-1 Gray Eagle for our 10th Mountain Division warfighters, funds technology upgrades and other crucial equipment to ensure military safety readiness, and provides $27 million for the Wellfield Expansion Resiliency Project at Fort Drum.
- Elise has been a strong voice against President Biden’s failed foreign policy, including his disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan that cost thirteen American lives and put countless American and Afghan allies in the hands of terrorists.
- She introduced legislation that would establish the National Commission on United States Involvement in Afghanistan, a 9/11-style bipartisan commission to investigate Biden’s colossal failure, which she called ‘Joe Biden’s Saigon’.
- Elise is a member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence because she is committed to protecting our national security.
- Through collaboration with her colleagues, government agencies and a variety of other organizations, Elise has worked to strengthen our national security in order to face 21st century threats across the globe.
- Current threats include nuclear-armed North Korea and Iran, geo-politically assertive China and an aggressive and expansionist Russia. Terrorism continues to pose a risk to the United States and our place in the world.
It is critical that we protect our nation, strengthen our relationships with allies and work with our regional partners to confront our adversaries before they can threaten our homeland.
Elise also understands the need to protect our security domestically. As the former Chairwoman of the House Armed Services’ Subcommittee on Emerging Threats and Capabilities and a member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, Elise has had an important oversight role of U.S. Special Operations Forces, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, information technology and programs, and force protection policy and oversight.
